ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION. A lump in the throat (globus pharyngeus) is a common clinical disease, but its etiology remains unclear. This is a common clinical condition that usually lasts a long time, is difficult to treat and has a tendency to recur. Furthermore, due to the uncertain etiology of the lump in the throat, it remains difficult to establish standard investigation and treatment strategies for affected patients.
AIM. Systematize the available data on this problem and give rational recommendations for the management of patients with a similar symptom.
CONCLUSION. The results of recent studies strongly suggest that gastro-esophageal reflux is the main cause of a lump in the throat, although this issue remains the subject of serious debate Numerous functional and organic causes have been proposed as potential sources of this sensation, such as impaired function of the upper esophageal sphincter (UES), esophageal motility disorders, structural diseases of the head and neck, as well as psychological factors.
