Study of the Influence of Etiopathologic Factors on Cognitive Function in Chronic Cerebral Ischemia

ABSTRACT

AIM. To study the influence of etiopathologic factors on cognitive functions in chronic cerebral ischemia, to identify the key causes of cognitive impairment and to develop recommendations for their prevention and correction

MATERIAL AND METHODS. A study of 150 persons divided into three groups was carried out. The main group of patients is n=56 with chronic cerebral ischemia, suffering from arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus and cytomegalovirus infection. The Comparative Group consisted of n=54 patients with chronic cerebral ischemia, arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus. The third - control group - n=40 relatively healthy individuals (selected from among the employees of the city medical association, neurology department).

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. The study of the  neurological status, as well as laboratory tests, neurophysiological and neuroimaging methods, allows us to assess the influence of etiopathologic factors on cognitive functions in patients with chronic cerebral ischemia.

CONCLUSION. In patients with chronic cerebral ischemia against the background of arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus and detected cytomegalovirus infection, early cognitive changes are determined.
